According to GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring, Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers on Nintendo Switch had a much better debut in the UK on the Big N’s single system than Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite did in the region. Unfortunately, though, he didn’t share any specific numbers to back up the claim, but considering the fact that the latter title didn’t even make the top ten on the UK’s weekly, all-format sales chart, it looks as if Ultra Street Fighter 2 was far more coveted at its launch by comparison.
While Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite didn’t crack the top ten, it was Destiny 2 that reigned supreme in the number one spot for yet another week, as the science fiction shooter sequel from Bungie has already been proclaimed as having the biggest console game launch of 2017. Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers at the very least nabbed the tenth spot on the charts when it debuted back in May of this year. Despite Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s less-than-stellar debut in the UK, the game itself has garnered a solid amount of critical praise, so it’s definitely interesting to see a relatively well-received title miss the sales mark so spectacularly. And considering the fact that Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers scored bigger in its first week on the single console of the Nintendo Switch, next week’s potential sales for the multi-platform MvC: Infinite don’t look too bright.
Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers is available for Nintendo Switch, while Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
