While early mods consisted of palette recolors or model swaps, there have of technical breakthroughs that have surpassed the game’s built-in limitations. These allow for more elaborate mods to be made; one of the most ambitious Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 mod added in several new characters to the game. One mod adds in the vampiric antihero of the Marvel universe, Morbius, to the playable roster.

It’s no secret that the Morbius film has been a bit of a disaster and is regarded as such by the fans and critics. Despite the film’s overwhelmingly negative reception, it has also seen somewhat ironic positivity around it. The memes about the film have swept across the Internet, which has given it a peculiar status. It’s with this brand of irony that has inspired some fans to add Morbius into the game.
This mod was made by TheShaunSenpai and Chimichangar on Twitter, which show that this mod replaces one of Firebrand’s alternate costumes in UMvC3 with Morbius. The modders themselves note that this is only a model swap of Morbius over Firebrand, so players shouldn’t expect custom gameplay mechanics or movesets for the character. That said, Firebrand’s flight-based gameplay and swiping attacks do match up with other playable appearances of Morbius in Marvel games, such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
This skin has custom voice lines which is voiced by one of the modders themselves, which only further fuel the ironic enjoyment regarding Morbius itself. A lot of the replies and Quote Retweets of this mod even involves a quote that doesn’t exist in Morbius, “it’s morbin time” or some other memetic variation. This mod should be a fun time for any fan of the film, ironic or otherwise.
