Ukraine’s Operational Command South (OCS) confirmed to Ukrinform on Saturday that a Russian Ka-52 “Alligator” helicopter had been shot down over Kherson, a southern region located just to the north of Crimea. The successful strike was carried out by one of the country’s anti-aircraft brigades. “On October 22, around 12:00, in the Berislav district of Kherson region, a unit of the Odesa anti-aircraft missile brigade of Air Command South shot down a Ka-52 attack helicopter flown by the occupiers,” a statement from OCS said....

It took Black several seconds to come out of the dugout after Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached when pitcher Tyson Ross' throw pulled first baseman Yonder Alonso off the bag for an error. This fight was scheduled to go in April, but Dillashaw injured his rib and the fight was rescheduled for Saturday. Dillashaw’s victory over Barao is the biggest upset in UFC title fight history. Dillashaw, at least an 8-to-1 underdog that night, dominated Barao the entire fight and finished him in the fifth round. Dillashaw (11-2), who fights out of the Alpha Male camp in Sacramento, Calif., comes off a nice fifth-round KO of Joe Soto in August of last year....

Zuffa (parent company of mixed martial arts league UFC) has sued Ubisoft for copyright infringement for using the term “Ultimate Fighting,” in their latest, less-than-stellar motion control game, entitled Fighters Uncaged. So it seems that the fight is beginning to stretch out of the octagon, and into the courtroom. Zuffa is attempting to make the case that the use of the UFC trademarked term “Ultimate Fighting” is being deliberately used to confuse consumers - and create an association to the UFC and illegal street fighting....

That’s what Luiz Eduardo Garagorri must have felt when he swapped the demanding courtroom for the unhinged Octagon. The Uruguayan Featherweight became the first fighter from the South American country to compete in the UFC at the recently concluded Fight Night 156 event. The momentous occasion was made even more special as he fought in front of his countrymen and women in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo. It gets even better. Garagorri won in his UFC debut after putting on an impressive performance against Peruvian fighter Humberto Bendaney....

The general staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told the Kyiv Independent their intelligence indicates the Russians want to end the war by May 9, which is a day celebrated in Russia to mark its victory over the Nazis more than 70 years ago. Victory Day is one of Russia’s biggest holidays, with many schools and businesses closing for the day and military parades marching throughout the country, according to Time and Date....

Prystaiko—who previously served as Ukraine’s foreign minister and the country’s ambassador to both Canada and NATO—issued the warning at an event at the U.K.’s House of Lords on Monday evening, marking the launch of a new report on future security in the Black Sea. The paper—titled “‘Global Britain’ and the Black Sea region” and published by the Council on Geostrategy—suggests that an enhanced NATO presence in the Black Sea will be vital to the future European security, regardless of the outcome of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine....

Lyman is in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, one of the four Ukrainian regions that Russian President Vladimir Putin illegally declared to be annexed for Russia on Friday. Ukraine’s military reported on the same day that Russian forces were partially enclosed near Lyman and said the operation to retake the settlement was “at the final stage.” A report from ISW, the U.S.-based think tank, assessed the state of the war on Friday and predicted the city would fall within days, potentially dealing a significant blow to Putin’s claim of controlling the region....

“We’re currently in the condition-setting phase of the counteroffensive,” said George Barros, an analyst at the Institute for the Study of War. “Recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian positions in and around Crimea, along with strikes on bridges that were being used to supply Russian forces in the city of Kherson,” Barros told Newsweek, “should be seen as part of a coherent operation aimed at regaining control of the right [west] bank of the Dnieper River....

Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko, who has previously served as Ukraine’s foreign minister, ambassador to Canada, and representative at NATO in Brussels, told Newsweek in an interview at Kyiv’s embassy in London that NATO’s deep support for, and growing collaboration with Ukraine means it is “logical” that his nation would join the transatlantic alliance. It is “silly” to pretend otherwise. “Our conversation with the rest of the world—at least the Western world—should be very easy....

Though there is much fighting ahead, Ukrainian leaders used a summit in Kyiv this weekend to reiterate their maximalist war goal demands: return of all Ukrainian territory, comprehensive multilateral security guarantees, reparations, and war crimes charges. “We cannot allow ourselves to stop,” President Volodymyr Zelensky told attendees of the Yalta European Strategy summit. “Russia is now on the path of their historic defeat.” He added that there would be no renewed negotiations with Moscow until the Russians “demonstrate that they are ready to give back the land that has never been theirs....

Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister and minister of economic development and trade, said in a Facebook post that the estimated losses come from losses related to infrastructure, gross national product (GDP), the civilian population and more. “Evil will inevitably be punished and Russia will feel the full weight of its own criminal actions on the territory of Ukraine,” she wrote. The statement comes as the war in Ukraine is in its second month....

Mykhailo Fedorov, who is also minister of digital transformation, wrote on Twitter: “Everyone wants Putin to die. Until this happens, we give Ukrainians and the whole world a unique opportunity: to send Putin to Jupiter. Donate $2.99 for a rocket. All funds will be directed to the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure.” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began on February 24 and has already caused severe damage to infrastructure and civilian buildings....

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has continued to say that it has destroyed numerous Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones that were sent by Russia. On Thursday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces also said that they believe Iran is sending new Arash-2 drones to Russia and helping to train Russian troops on how to use them. While Iran has denied reports that they are supplying drones to Russia, Reuters reported on Thursday that British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly is expected to announce new sanctions on Iran regarding its drones and their uses in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war....

Video footage of the assault shows a series of shattering blasts, understood to be the guns and ammunition exploding. The position eventually goes up in an enormous fireball, sending what appear to be ignited shells into the air at random. A series of what appear to be Russian vehicles can then be seen evacuating the area at high speed, apparently as the Ukrainian forces advance. Ukraine’s 59th Motorized Brigade - part of the Ukrainian Ground Forces - claimed the destruction of the artillery battery....

Umpire Sudhir Asnani recalled one such incident in which he was in the line of fire as Dhoni’s temper flared during an ODI between India and England at Mohali in 2013. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, The UFC had to cancel all its scheduled events for the months of March and April but the promotion returned with a bang in May with three epic cards lined up one after the other, all within a span of just eight days. When these modern-day gladiators square off inside the Octagon looking to beat the living daylights out of each other, there’s bound to be some injuries and the UFC on ESPN 8 card was no exception....

While plenty of people were sleeping on this card because it lacked major names, the matchups were even and intriguing with a couple of them carrying serious divisional ramifications. From top to bottom, it was actually one of the most complete cards of the year. Once the action hit the Octagon, the results spoke for themselves.
