Russia is intensifying its attack on the Ukrainian capital, after its troops advanced on cities in the east, north, and south on Thursday. Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said its forces managed to stop a convoy of Russian tanks after airborne assault troops blew up a bridge over the Teteriv River at Ivankiv, around 30 miles north of Kyiv. There were reports that Ukrainian forces had also blown up two other bridges but this has not been confirmed....

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram that there had been “damage to the railway tracks” in the Shebekinsky urban district, which borders Ukraine, had left the line out of use. There were no injuries, he said. “Only the railway track is destroyed … I will inform you about the reasons later,” he said. The region has since raised its terrorist threat level, warning local people against visiting crowded places, Russian news agency Tass reported....

The video posted Thursday shows what appears to be an abandoned makeshift Russian barracks in the Ukrainian city of Izium. The video was filmed on September 8, according to the ministry, the same day Ukrainian forces announced they had reclaimed a large swath of northeastern Ukraine. Its release follows other revelations from Ukrainian forces of what Russia left behind in its retreat. “Neatness is not the best virtue of the russian military,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a tweet that included the video, noting that for some Russian troops their last day in Izium was “the last day of their lives....

Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskiy said funds for the fence should be gathered next year, with the project’s cost being an estimated 17 billion hryvnas, or $640 million. “Building a fence, a net and barbed wire, with a total coverage by surveillance and alarm systems, along the entire border…is the most rational decision,” Monastyrskiy said, speaking in the Ukrainian parliament. On Friday, Ukrainian authorities reported intercepting a group of 15 Middle Eastern migrants attempting to cross illegally from Belarus....

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said these explosions indicate military activities near the site, which is located on the frontline of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. IAEA nuclear safety and security officials have been reporting blasts near the facility “almost daily,” Grossi said in a statement. This includes eight “strong detonation[s]” heard at around 10 a.m. local time Wednesday that caused office windows at the plant to vibrate....

While discussing the possibility of peace talks on Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia is “always ready to listen to our Western colleagues if they make another request to organize a conversation,” and named two specific requests for negotiating an end to the war. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry announced the discovery on Twitter on Sunday and shared pictures of the T-90M tank that was emblazoned on one side with a white “Z,” a symbol that represents pro-invasion sentiments. The T-90M is the latest version of the Russian T-90 main battle tank. “We ask its owner(s) to contact the #UAarmy. Please identify yourself by a sign: a white flag,” the ministry wrote.
