IPC announced on Sunday the decision to suspend Russian para athletes from the Rio Games, reports Sputnik. “While we have real sympathy for those individual Russian Paralympians not going to Rio who train and compete clean, it is crucial for the integrity of our sport that those involved as well as the public feel confident that all necessary measures are in place to tackle doping and the playing field is level,” the British Paralympic Association said in a statement on Sunday....

The Kinburn Spit, which is attached to the Kinburn Peninsula in the Black Sea, was first captured by the Russian military in June and has remained one of the last occupied territories in southern Ukraine. According to Ukraine’s operational command Facebook page Friday, the sandy area has been the “focus of enemy’s life force, weapons and equipment.” Ukraine’s military reported that its attack “demilitarized seven Russians and two auto armor units,” adding that the “base point” had been “destroyed....

“All military action around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant must stop immediately. On Ukraine’s request, we’ve mobilised via #EUCivPro 5.5 million potassium iodide tablets for the safety of people living around the plant. We continue to monitor the situation,” said the EU Commission on its official Twitter account. The Commission described the tablets “as a preventative safety measure to increase the level of protection around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.” The tablets would be used in limited scenarios to avoid inhaled or swallowed radioactive iodine being absorbed by the thyroid, it said in a statement....

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine’s Facebook page set the bounty for Girkin at $100,000. Girkin boasted he had “pulled the trigger of war” in Ukraine as the leader of the Kremlin’s forces in Slovyansk, eastern Ukraine, in the first months of the 2014 conflict, according to a Financial Times report. In 2020, Girkin accepted “moral responsibility” for the downing of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 that resulted in the deaths of 298 people....

In a letter penned to Nick Clegg, the President of Global Policy of the Meta Corporation, Ukraine’s Ministry of Statistics requested that Facebook and Instagram cease the moderation of Ukrainian content on Russia’s invasion. “At a time when Russian propaganda remains in the field of view, the posts of the Ukrainian media community have become sensitive content for the world,” Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who also serves as the digital transformation minister, wrote to Clegg on July 27....

Thousands of people from the U.K. to Australia showed their solidarity with Ukrainians who are facing an onslaught from Russia’s military after Putin announced an invasion that has already claimed many lives. Rallies on Friday were held in dozens of cities including Madrid, London and Taipei as people called for a stronger international response to the war. In Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, which was itself the scene of a war with Russia in 2008, thousands of people protested outside the parliament of the former Soviet country on Friday....

Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi confirmed on Twitter that among the 76 missiles launched by Russia at critical Ukrainian infrastructure, 72 of them were cruise missiles while four were guided air-to-surface missiles. Missiles launched as of 1 p.m. Kyiv time included Kh-101, Kh-55, and sea-based “Kalibr” missiles. “Missile terror will not force us to lay down weapons,” Zaluzhnyi wrote. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), which called Russia “a terrorist state,” tweeted that a missile hit a residential building in Kryvyi Rih, killing two people and injuring eight—including three children....

Speaking on a national broadcast, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat highlighted what he called the service branch’s effective use of the high-speed, anti-radiation missile (HARM) against Russia. The weapon is designed to destroy radar-quipped air defense systems. Ihnat said they’re bolstering support for Ukrainian ground forces as the Pentagon promised more HARM missiles for Ukraine. Developed in the 1980s, the air-to-surface tactical missile is “designed to seek and destroy enemy radar-equipped air defense systems” and works by homing in on enemy radar, according to a U....

Bohdan Yaremenko, 48, who heads the foreign relations committee, was photographed in the Rada, discussing prices and sex services on a website. During one voting session on Wednesday, he was pictured reading the profile of a 32-year-old woman and then another woman who names an hourly rate. Yaremenko, who is married with two children, was then pictured looking at profiles on the Tinder dating app. When the story emerged, he initially justified his actions on Facebook, saying that they were part of a “deliberate provocation” to shame prying journalists....

At least 12 explosions rocked the facility, with videos showing large plumes of smoke rising from the site and at least one destroyed aircraft. While Russia insists the explosions were an accident, a U.S. government source told The Washington Post they appeared to be the work of Ukrainian forces. Thomas passed away Monday after a long battle with ALS. He played for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before being drafted in 1995. Head coach Mark Hudspeth also tweeted out a picture of Thomas back in his college days in Louisiana. Thomas was just 42 years old at the time of his death.

Uma Thurman and Henry Golding have signed on for Netflix’s The Old Guard 2, adding their substantial skills to the upcoming follow-up, though it’s currently unknown who they will be playing.
